Best Restaurants in Garland, TX

Monday, July 24th, 2017

When it’s summer in Texas, sometimes it’s just too darned hot to cook, right? At Barrett Motors in Garland, our service team was talking about just that, and began sharing their favorite local restaurants with each other. Knowing our customers probably feel the same way we do about being in a hot kitchen or at the backyard grill on a 100 degree day, we thought we’d share our list of top restaurants in Garland.

Tranky’s Tacos

This street taco favorite is at 2218 S. Jupiter Road and their gourmet tacos are worth the trip. We’ve tried Pollo, Fajita, Barbacoa and Carnitas, and they are all terrific. In fact, we think they should rename the place Tranky’s Taco Heaven! Even the Borracho beans are fantastic. The only thing better is the pricing—very inexpensive. No wonder it’s packed at lunch and dinner!

Intrinsic Smokehouse and Brewery

Brisket nachos, ribs, fried okra and the best mac and cheese in town—we can’t say enough about this place. Plus, you can get four pours of home-brewed brewskies for just $15. We especially like the Texas Shake, which is a creamy and hazy IPA. Located at 509 W. State St. in Garland, it’s a real find.

Babe’s Chicken Dinner House

If you live in Garland, you have to know about Babe’s, right? It’s probably the most famous restaurant we’ve got. Located at 1456 Belt Line Road, it’s busy from the moment they open until they close. Everyone at the table gets to order the meat of their choice—Fried Chicken, Fried Catfish, Chicken Fried Steak, Chicken Strips—then they bring out the sharable sides: mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, black eyed peas and white gravy. And the desserts? We are hooked on their banana pudding with meringue. Just forget about your diet and get in the car and go. You won’t regret it. (Just don’t tell your personal trainer!)

All Used Cars Are Not Created Equally

Wednesday, July 5th, 2017

More and more people are buying preowned vehicles, and for lots of good reasons! First of all, you will save thousands of dollars. Yup, thousands. Why? Because new cars depreciate, and quickly. If you buy a new car and drive it off the lot, then drive it back to the dealership, it is no longer considered a new car. Just like that, it has depreciated. In America, the average new car costs $33,500. The average used car costs just over $20,000. That’s a big difference. And according to Consumer Reports, after three years your new car will be worth just 54 percent of what you paid for it. So buying a used car saves you a lot from the get-go.

At Barrett Motors in Sachse, Garland and Rowlett, we thought it might be helpful to share all the reasons that buying a used car makes sense. (more…)
